80S - Decade of metal ballads
| |
80s STORIES
Yes, metal, power or hair ballads have definitely became the most popular in the 80s.

The term "power ballad" describe a type of song performed by a hard rock or heavy metal band that is atypical of the songs defined by the hard rock and heavy metal genres. Typically, a power ballad have a slower tempo, longer voiced notes, acoustic guitars instead of electric. Common power ballad themes include (but are not limited to) emotional heartache, need, love and loss. They usualy started slowly with a keyboard. Then comes to the chorus; and you can hear heavy drumming and distorted guitar or saxophone solo. And before the end the song go slow down again.
It is believed that power ballads first came into existence in the 1970's with the insistence of record companies. They forced their hard rock and heavy metal bands to include a powerful ballad on an album to increase selling. This belief is evidenced by the number of power ballads (and their albums) that achieved Top Forty status.
Power ballads found a real audience with girls. Yes, girls love power ballads (but also boys like girls in tight jeans on rock concerts...).
Some of greatest and most popular power balads from this era are: Whitesnake - Is This Love, Here I Go Again Cinderella - Nobody's Fool, Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone) Scorpions - Always Somewhere, Still Loving You, Send Me An Angel Poison - Every rose has its thorn Cinderella – Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone), Nobody’s Fool Def Leppard – Hysteria, Bringin' on the Heartbreak, Love Bites, When Love and Hate Collide Gary Moore – Still Got The Blues (For You) Queensryche - Silent Lucidity Boston - Amanda Europe - Carrie Motley Crue – Without You, Home Sweet Home Van Halen – Why Can’t This Be Love? Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is Dokken - Alone Again Nazareth - Love Hurts Giant - I'll See You in My Dreams ...............
As the 80s decade went on, power ballads became more and more popular - and by the end you hardly find a rock record without a few of them. But not all of them are always good - some bands forgot, from where this kind of music came - from hard rock and heavy metal, anger, power, hardnes, trash and noise. This thins were often lost. And so metal ballads slow fade out and there were new angry and dark bands. Rebember Kurt Cobain? But don't fear - grunge ballads were just waiting for their moment....

|
80s SINGER

MADONNA after a star reaches a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their persona. Madonna is such a star. Madonna rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common than discussing her music. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she manipulated the media and the public with her music, her videos, her publicity, and her sexuality. Arguably, Madonna was the first female pop star to have complete control of her music and image. MADONNA moved from her native Michigan to New York in 1977, with dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. She studied with choreographer Alvin Ailey and modeled. In 1979, she became part of the Patrick Hernandez Revue, a disco outfit that had the hit "Born to Be Alive." She traveled to Paris with Hernandez; it was there that she met Dan Gilroy, who would soon become her boyfriend. Upon returning to New York, the pair formed the Breakfast Club, a pop/dance group. Madonna originally played drums for the band, but she soon became the lead singer. In 1980, she left the band and formed Emmy with her former boyfriend, drummer Stephen Bray. Soon, Bray and Madonna broke off from the group and began working on some dance/disco-oriented tracks. A demo tape of these tracks worked its way to Mark Kamins, a New York-based DJ/producer. Kamins directed the tape to Sire Records, which signed the singer in 1982. | more...
